Categories: Uncategorized

In fall 2024, 24 teacher candidates (TCs) from the Elementary Education program participated in the Niner University Elementary (NUE) School Cohort. As part of the cohort, TCs take four of their five classes onsite and complete their clinical hours at NUE. Of these 24 TCs, 22 were enrolled in the early reading methods class, READ 3224. As part of their reading class, TCs provided 22 kindergarten and first grade students with supplemental reading instruction using UFLI Foundations. UFLI Foundations is an evidence-based reading program that teaches students the foundational skills needed for proficient reading. TCs taught 16 lessons while receiving coaching and feedback from their professor, Dr. Pilonieta and their peer coach, Mebane Scholar Zoie Matthews.
