Jamie Kudlats
Jamie Kudlats is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he teaches courses in the Master of School Administration and Ed.D. in Educational Leadership programs. He also developed and currently leads the Independent School concentration of the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction.
His research interests include positive and caring school leadership, interpersonal relationships in schools, school law, and school leaders’ impact on school culture and climate. Kudlats is currently working on projects centered on stress, coping, and well-being in schools, as well as the nature, significance, and purpose of direct principal-student interactions and relationships. He currently serves on the editorial board of The High School Journal as well as the board of the Centre for Relationship-Based Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of positive, genuine, intentional, and responsive relationships in schools. He is also the editor for Law and Policy in Schools, a magazine focused on practical solutions for administrators and practitioners in schools.
Kudlats earned his Ph.D. in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master of Arts in Education (Leadership and Educational Administration) from The George Washington University. He also served as a math teacher in grades 4-8, a middle school assistant principal, and a middle school principal in Atlanta for 15 years before moving to Chapel Hill to pursue his Ph.D. While at UNC Chapel Hill, he served as an instructor and student teaching supervisor in the M.A.T. program at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels.
Kudlats is also the co-creator and co-host of Chalk & Gavel, a biweekly podcast focused on important legal issues in K-12 education.
