John Nance

John C. Nance, Ph.D., LCMHC-S, is an associate clinical professor and director of clinical placements in the Department of Counseling at UNC Charlotte. A counselor educator and licensed clinical mental health counselor supervisor, Nance brings more than two decades of clinical practice, teaching and supervision experience to his work with students and the counseling profession. Nance’s professional and scholarly interests include adult development and aging, dissociative disorders, LGBTQ+ populations, counselor supervision, and social justice and advocacy.

Nance is also an active leader in the counseling profession. He is the president-elect of the American Counseling Association for 2027-08, and has held leadership positions at the national, state and regional levels. He has served as president of the Association for Adult Development and Aging, the North Carolina Counseling Association and the South Carolina Counseling Association.
