Title: Not Just a Book on the Carpet: Read-Alouds as Core K–2 Comprehension Instruction

Description: This session positions K–2 read-alouds as a core context for comprehension and oral language instruction. Aimed at principals, coaches, and literacy leaders, the webinar synthesizes current research on effective read-aloud practices and the kinds of teacher and student talk that truly build meaning. Participants will learn concrete look-fors they can use in walkthroughs, including text selection criteria, strategy instruction, knowledge and vocabulary building, and effective discourse patterns. We’ll also examine common myths and explore practical leadership moves—planning, coaching, and feedback—that elevate read-alouds as comprehension-building contexts.
