  • Let your child choose a book to read together, go to the library or ask your child’s teacher to borrow a class book. Your child may have a favorite book that she may want you to read again and again.
  • Talk about the title and the illustrations on the cover of the book before reading, ask your child what he thinks it might be about. Point to the words on the pages and talk about how they tell the story and the illustrations add to the story.
  • Take books with you everywhere you go, read at the park, at the doctor’s office, on the bus, in the car you child can look at books, read with your child anytime you can throughout the day.
  • Ask your child to read to you (or pretend to read). This is a great way to encourage reading and is fun for your child to take on the role of the reader.
